Activities
2026 - Long Night of Research
In 2026, our group participated in the "Lange Nacht der Forschung" (Long Night of Research) event, Austria's biggest national outreach event for science and research.
Together with the Star and Planet Formation and EASE groups, we presented several stations related to exoplanet research. With a model designed and constructed by G. Van Looveren, we illustrated the location of the circumstellar habitable zone for host stars of different masses. This was supplemented by a poster designed to accompany the practical demonstration.

Nachts auf der Sternwarte
In May 2025, Simon Schleich gave a public outreach talk about his area of research. This talk (held in German) provided an overview of how we observe exoplanets and how we characterise their atmospheres using observational data. The talk was held in the context of the “Nachts auf der Sternwarte” (A night at the observatory) series of talks at the Institute for Astrophysics.
A recording of the talk and subsequent Q&A session can be found in the embedded video (in German). Both the poster and the slides of the talk can be downloaded below.
2024 - Long Night of Research
In 2024, our group participated in the "Lange Nacht der Forschung" (Long Night of Research) event, Austria's biggest national outreach event for science and research.
With a toy model constructed by the instrumentation team at the Department of Astrophysics, we illustrated the concept of exoplanet transits and light-curves for about 1500 visitors, who visited the Sternwarte during the event. We also designed a poster to accompany the practical demonstration of exoplanetary observations (see below).
